August 2024 – Coastal Stone Australian Single Malt Whisky

Summerton Whisky Club’s August 2024 Club Bottle – Coastal Stone Australian Single Malt Whisky

In the last twenty years Australia has emerged as a whisky region with its own style – full flavoured and bold – that has won a number of World’s Best awards. Climate and great wood management, using active casks often from the local wine industry, help create this style.

This month we have teamed up with Coastal Stone to create an exclusive Club Bottle just for Members that showcases delicious Australian craftsmanship.

Distilled on the Northern Beaches of Sydney using local New South Wales barley and soft Sydney sandstone-filtered water, their whisky is aged close to the coast ensuring a temperate climate and sea breezes are part of the local influence.

Using some of the oldest whisky in their warehouse, we started with a backbone of first fill Bourbon casks and then layered it with some sherry, port and French oak casks to create depth in this well rounded, bold expression.
To allow us to explore Coastal Stone further the distillery has been kind enough to include a sample of their signature whisky, Nor’easter Australian Single Malt, which has been matured in local red wine casks, as well as new American and French oak.

As ever you should enjoy your whisky how you like it best, whether neat or with water, ice or mixed. For those who are unsure from their first taste I can recommend leaving the bottle for a couple of weeks after opening, as a whisky will often evolve. To experience differently, add a drop of water to your glass and see how the flavours open up.
And those thinking about mixing this on a hot summer day, a simple option I like is with sparkling water
