Times change but our spirit hasn’t…

The distinctive, some say unforgettable, taste of Glenfarclas is a result of over 150 years of family ownership.

The distillery was purchased by John Grant in 1865 as an adjunct to a farm and continues in family ownership under the direction of John L. S. Grant (Chairman and 5th generation).

Glenfarclas, from the Gaelic ‘Glen of the Green Grassland’, nestles at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside. Crystal clear, the water bubbles up from the underlying granite on the slopes of the Speyside mountain to supply the distillery below.

Here it combines with the finest malted barley to provide a mash which is then twice distilled in traditional, direct fired, copper pot stills — the largest in Speyside.

Only the lightest and best fractions of alcohol are collected, and it has been said that “it is the whisky they don’t use that makes Glenfarclas great”.

Once the powerful new make spirit is collected, it is filled into the finest Spanish ex-Oloroso Sherry casks and laid to rest within the traditional ‘dunnage’ style warehouses over many years to produce the lustrous colour and flavour for which Glenfarclas is celebrated.
