Summerton Whisky Club is a members club established in 2018 as a whiskey subscription, but is now so much more, sharing beautifully-aged bottles of whisky to our members every other month. We curate and deliver only the finest whiskies from around the world directly to your door.
We do the searching so you relax and enjoy the drinking.
Why did Summerton Whisky Club come about? How I created the UK’s Best Whisky Subscription?
For Christmas I knew what I wanted to get Dad, it was simple, I wanted a bottle of fantastic aged spirit to be delivered to his door every month. I wanted it to be a different bottle every month, so there would be an element of surprise and excitement every month, and importantly the bottles needed to be something you wouldn’t get in the supermarket or everyday brands…this was to be special.
I thought that there must be someone doing it, after all there was the Craft Gin Club in the UK and some clubs doing exactly what I wanted in the US, but after a long search I found nothing that would be the right gift for Dad.
Instead of getting Dad the premium spirits subscription as I wanted, I had go out and find the bottles myself. I asked around and found that many friends had struggled to find a good gift for their mums/dads/aunties/uncles, and that they would love to gift them a whiskey subscription. They particularly liked the idea that someone would do all the hard work finding these masterpieces and getting them to their loved one, whilst they got the praise for the wonderful gift.
So as no-one else was doing it, people wanted it and I was already doing the searching for Dad, I decided to create an alcohol subscription club allowing others to gift this unique experience to someone special in their lives…the Summerton Whisky Club, a whisky of the month (well every two months so it wasn’t too much) was born.
Summerton Whisky Club is different, and proudly so.
Being part of The Summerton Club is an experience – more than just a whiskey subscription. We deliver excitement, pleasant surprises, eager anticipation and, of course, consistently great bottles.
In believing this, we ourselves adhere to a few ‘rules’:
That’s all there is to it!
Dan is founder of Summerton Whisky Club, something he started as a Christmas present to his Dad and has grown into the best whisky subscription in UK and Europe, best whisky community out there, best UK whisky festival and just the best whisky club…we might be biased!
Sport has been a big part of Dan’s life, having represented Britain at two sports, and still plays for football and roller hockey league teams when time allows. A big foodie, Dan’s career started in the food industry, where he got to work for a number of household names as well as create new products, which is a passion he has continued into whisky.
And anyone who knows Dan, knows he longs to be out in the world, traveling, meeting new people and eating new things.
Favourite sport:
“Probably skiing, although hockey (ice or roller) comes a very close second.”
Favourite meal:
“I’m going back to my childhood favourite of Wiener schnitzel and chips. Steak & kidney pudding would be my other from childhood, as I grew up in two countries.”
Favourite whisky:
“Now that’s a hard one, but if I had to choose one it would be the first one I created, a 15 year old Girvan single grain scotch, finished in port pipes.”
Tom is the creative force behind Summerton Club’s look and feel, taking care of all you see (and a lot you don’t) including the website design and layout, emails, exclusive bottle labels, social graphics, and not least the beautiful whisky photography you see throughout the year. He also works alongside Jon with a fair amount of technical wrangling to keep things working in the background!
Tom studied Graphic Design in university, and has worked in the industry ever since – both for large agencies and on a freelance basis. Much of his time away from the computer is spent training and responding to callouts for his local Mountain Rescue team – for whom he is a committee member, Party Leader, Land Search technician and qualified (R3E) Rope Rescue Technician.
Favourite sport:
“Climbing and Mountain Biking”
Favourite meal:
“A good steak with stilton sauce”
Favourite whisky:
“Partial to a good Old Fashioned with a quality rye, and my favourite drams include Balvenie Doublewood and Boann ‘The Whistler’ Mosaic.”
Jon keeps things running smoothly with a focus on eCommerce engagement and conversion. A key strategy has been the automation of our subscription management and order processing to improve accuracy and speed.
Jon has a rich history in the industry, having owned and operated a brewery in South Wales, and has previously represented Mackmyra as their brand ambassador/head of eCommerce.
Favourite sport:
Formula 1, 2 and E
Favourite meal:
Living in Italy, the thing I miss most is a British/Indian curry – as in one you’d find in the UK. So if there’s a deliveroo person who fancies an epic trip…
Favourite whisky:
Octomore – first ‘real’ whisky I ever tried. Opened my eyes to peat and I’ve been chasing that first sip since.
